For those seeking a 12-step program in Nashville, TN our program seamlessly incorporates these vital steps into a thorough treatment plan that meets both immediate and ongoing needs. We are dedicated to supporting every step of your recovery journey.

Understanding the 12-Step Program

The 12-Step Program is a structured framework that has been instrumental in the recovery process for many people. Developed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in the 1930s, these steps provide a pathway for individuals to address their addiction, develop a supportive community, and cultivate personal growth. At Live Again Detox, we embrace these principles and integrate them into our comprehensive treatment approach.

The 12 Steps: A Closer Look

Step 1: Admit Powerlessness

“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.”

This step involves recognizing that addiction has taken over one’s life and admitting the need for help. Accepting powerlessness is the first step toward seeking and embracing recovery.

Step 2: Believe in a Higher Power

“Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

Individuals begin to trust in a higher power or force beyond themselves. This belief is crucial as it provides strength, guidance, and a sense of hope.

Step 3: Surrender to the Higher Power

“Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

This step involves committing to surrender control and seek guidance from a higher power. It’s about trusting something greater for support and direction.

Step 4: Conduct a Personal Inventory

“Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.”

Individuals reflect on their past behaviors and actions. This step helps identify where they have strayed from their values and highlights necessary changes.

Step 5: Admit Wrongdoings

“Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Sharing these insights with a trusted person helps to alleviate feelings of guilt and shame, fostering honesty and emotional healing.

Step 6: Readiness for Change

“We’re entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.”

This step is about preparing mentally and emotionally to let go of negative traits and behaviors, which is crucial for making lasting improvements.

Step 7: Humbly Ask for Removal

“Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.”

Seeking help to overcome personal shortcomings with humility and openness is the focus. This step emphasizes asking for support in making meaningful changes.

Step 8: List Amends

“Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.”

Identifying those who have been harmed and preparing to make amends is essential for repairing relationships. This step underscores the importance of taking responsibility.

Step 9: Make Amends

“Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.”

Actively seeking to make amends with those harmed, while being mindful of potential impacts, helps rebuild trust and repair relationships.

Step 10: Continue Personal Inventory

“Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.”

Regular self-reflection maintains awareness and accountability, encouraging ongoing personal growth and ensuring individuals stay on track with their recovery.

Step 11: Seek Spiritual Growth

“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”

Enhancing spiritual connection through prayer and meditation supports personal growth and helps individuals understand and fulfill their higher purpose.

Step 12: Carry the Message

“Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”

Sharing one’s journey and experience with others helps reinforce recovery and contributes to the community’s well-being. This step emphasizes giving back and integrating principles into daily life.

Why the 12 Steps Work

The 12-step Program works because it provides a comprehensive approach to addressing addiction. It helps individuals understand their addiction, take responsibility for their actions, and seek support from a higher power and community. Research supports the effectiveness of the 12 steps in promoting long-term sobriety. Research shows that participation in 12-step programs is associated with significant improvements in substance use outcomes and increased social support.

The steps are effective because they foster personal responsibility, emotional healing, and spiritual growth. They also build a sense of community and support, which is essential for maintaining sobriety. The structured framework and supportive environment help individuals navigate the challenges of recovery and stay committed to their goals.

This study provides a comprehensive meta-analysis of the effectiveness of 12-step programs, including detailed statistics and evidence on their impact on substance use disorders.

LAD has the most caring, loving staff. From the moment you make the first call for help, you will feel that concern and care even over the phone. But, once you walk in the doors and meet the staff you really feel safe. The nurses are amazing during detox! All of the staff understands what you are going through and quickly helped me feel deserving of love again. After going to groups and 1 on 1 counseling (which taught me so many things about surrendering to my higher power 100%, self care, rigorous honesty, gratitude, affirmations, community and connections, service— I could go on and on), I am leaving here feeling alive again! I love the real me! I will no longer be wearing any masks. I know that I have recovery work ahead, but I’m looking forward to it, because I’ve seen the the joy, kindness, and love that the staff here brings to work everyday. They show up happy with smiles on their faces, hugs and positive energy to give away and I want that for my life again! Travis in case management helps filing claims, assistance with insurance, discharge planning, legal help if needed, and so much more. I left Texas and flew to Nashville for this place. I know now that God wanted me in this exact place to meet the wonderful group of people that I became friends with so quickly. Hopefully, some will remain lifelong friends, because I will really miss them!
Love and gratitude to Matt for greeting me the first night and for being so kind during check in and every night that I saw him after that (thanks for the Earl Grey tea Matt 😊), Chelsea and Leigh Anne for their group work- they both have an incredible way of sharing things they have learned that really help you heal from within and you start wanting just to soak up all of their knowledge 💜, Nurse Kelly (night shift) and Nurse Chris (days) give the best hugs and uplifting advice especially since I am a nurse and they particularly focused on not allowing me to focus on shame and guilt, but on my accomplishments and what I have to look forward to moving forward- they treated me with complete respect (love you both 🤗) All of the nurses were caring and just amazing- Stacy, Sheila, Marlene, Patricia, Kelly on day shift. Additional shout outs to my therapist Chris….. he helped me work through so many things and gave me great coping skills to use at LAD and to take with me (can’t thank you enough), Nick for morning meditations and great insight and also all of his spunk, Josue for some very interesting, informative, and inspiring conversations on Sundays, Chris (night tech) for is humor and late night conversations when some of us couldn’t sleep, and Luke for his peaceful nature.

If you need help, please call LAD! It’s a small group of people, 12 at max capacity, super caring and attentive staff, great food and soooo many snacks/drinks available 24/7, lovely facility.

Aftercare Program In Nashville, TN

When you’ve made the brave choice to seek help for alcohol or drug addiction, completing a treatment program is a significant step forward. But recovery doesn’t stop there. Whether you’re navigating life after rehab or supporting a loved one through this journey, understanding addiction aftercare services in Nashville is key to sustaining recovery and fostering a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Understanding Aftercare Programs

It provides ongoing assistance as individuals transition from a highly controlled environment back into daily life. The purpose of aftercare is to help individuals apply the skills and strategies learned during treatment to real-world situations, ensuring they stay on track with their recovery goals.

Importance of Aftercare in Long-Term Recovery

Long-term recovery is a journey that requires consistent effort and support. Aftercare programs are vital in this process as they offer the necessary resources and community connections to help individuals remain focused on their sobriety. Without aftercare, the risk of relapse increases significantly, as people may find it challenging to manage stress, triggers, and other life challenges on their own. Addiction aftercare programs are particularly important as they provide localized support, making it easier for individuals to access the help they need.

According to a study by the National Library of Medicine, there is evidence suggesting that extended continuing care, which involves more proactive efforts to keep patients engaged, can yield more consistently positive outcomes. Additionally, patients who are at higher risk for relapse—due to factors such as ongoing substance use during the initial phase of treatment, poor social support, or low motivation early in the process—may derive greater benefit from continuing care compared to those with a more favorable prognosis.

Challenges and Barriers in Aftercare

While aftercare is essential for recovery, it is not without its challenges. Recognizing and addressing these barriers can help individuals overcome obstacles and stay on the path to recovery.

  • Common relapse triggers

Triggers like stress, exposure to substances, and social pressures can lead to cravings and relapse. Aftercare programs help identify and manage these triggers.

  • Stigma and isolation

Addiction stigma can cause social isolation, raising relapse risk. Aftercare addresses stigma and supports social reintegration.

  • Financial and logistical challenges

costs, transportation, and time off work can hinder aftercare access. Financial aid and community resources can ease these barriers.

  • Managing mental health

Co-occurring mental health issues, like depression or anxiety, can complicate recovery. Integrated treatment in aftercare is essential for comprehensive care.

Key Components of an Effective Aftercare Program

An effective aftercare program is comprehensive and personalized, addressing various aspects of an individual’s life to support ongoing recovery through addiction aftercare services in Nashville.

Regular Therapy Sessions (Individual, Group, and Family)

Consistent engagement in therapy is crucial for maintaining mental health and preventing relapse. Individual therapy allows for personalized attention to specific challenges, group therapy offers peer support and shared experiences, and family therapy helps repair and strengthen relationships strained by addiction.

Relapse Prevention Strategies

Relapse prevention is a core focus of aftercare programs. This involves identifying triggers, developing coping mechanisms, and creating action plans for managing high-risk situations. Relapse prevention also includes regular monitoring of progress and adapting strategies as needed to ensure they remain effective.

Life Skills Training

Recovering from addiction often requires rebuilding various aspects of life, including employment and financial stability. Life skills training helps individuals develop the practical skills needed to succeed in the workplace, manage finances, and live independently. This training is essential for fostering long-term stability and reducing the risk of relapse.

Stress Management Techniques

Stress is a common trigger for relapse, making stress management a critical component of aftercare. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, exercise, and time management can help individuals manage stress more effectively, reducing the likelihood of turning to substances as a coping mechanism.

Social Support and Networking

Building a strong support network is vital for long-term recovery. Aftercare programs encourage individuals to connect with peers, mentors, and community resources that can offer ongoing support, encouragement, and accountability. Social support helps reduce feelings of isolation and provides a sense of belonging, both of which are crucial for sustained recovery.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • What is addiction aftercare, and how does it extend the benefits of primary treatment?

Addiction aftercare refers to the structured support and resources provided once an individual completes an inpatient or intensive outpatient program. While primary treatment focuses on detoxification and early recovery skills, aftercare:

      • Reinforces coping strategies learned during treatment (e.g., stress management, refusal skills).

      • Provides accountability through regular check‑ins with counselors or case managers.

      • Facilitates community integration via sober living homes, support groups, or vocational services.

By maintaining momentum after discharge, aftercare significantly reduces the risk of relapse.

Call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for a free, confidential assessment of your aftercare needs.

    • Why is aftercare critical for sustaining long‑term sobriety?

Research shows that recovery is a lifelong process. Aftercare is critical because it:

      1. Bridges the transition from the protected environment of treatment back to everyday life.

      2. Addresses emerging challenges—new stressors, relationship dynamics, or work pressures.

      3. Reinforces neural pathways for healthy behaviors, counteracting old addiction patterns.

Without aftercare, up to 60% of individuals relapse within the first year post‑treatment. Ongoing support cuts that rate dramatically.

    • What types of aftercare services are available?

Aftercare can be tailored to individual needs, including:

      • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP): Day or evening therapy sessions 3–5 times per week.

      • Sober Living Residences: Peer‑supported housing with house rules and random drug testing.

      • Peer Support Groups: 12‑step (AA, NA) or non‑12‑step fellowships (SMART Recovery).

      • Alumni Networks: Graduates’ groups offering social events, mentorship, and check‑ins.

      • Telehealth & Digital Apps: Virtual counseling, reminders, and relapse‑prevention tools.

Live Again Detox can help you choose the right combination—call 629‑465‑4224.

    • How long should aftercare last, and is there a standard timeline?

While individual needs vary, a general guideline is:

      • First 90 days: Highest intensity of support (weekly therapy, group meetings).

      • 3–6 months: Gradual tapering to bi‑weekly or monthly sessions, based on stability.

      • 6–12 months and beyond: Quarterly check‑ins, alumni events, and ad‑hoc support as needed.

Your aftercare plan should be dynamic—adjusted according to your progress and life changes.

    • How do personalized aftercare plans differ from one‑size‑fits‑all approaches?

      A personalized plan considers:

      • Substance(s) used and duration of use.

      • Co‑occurring mental health conditions (e.g., depression, PTSD).

      • Social support network—family, friends, community resources.

      • Life goals—employment, education, relationships.

Customized aftercare yields better engagement and outcomes than generic checklists.

    • What role do peer‑led support groups play in aftercare?

      Peer groups offer:

      • Shared experience: Learning from those who’ve “been there.”

      • Accountability: Regular attendance and sponsorship.

      • Safe space: Confidential environment to discuss cravings, triggers, and successes.

Combining professional therapy with peer support creates a robust safety net.

    • How does family involvement enhance aftercare outcomes?

Addiction affects the entire family system. Involving loved ones through:

      • Family therapy sessions to rebuild trust and communication.

      • Education workshops on boundaries and enabling behaviors.

      • Support groups for families (e.g., Al‑Anon).

Engaged families can spot early warning signs and provide crucial encouragement.

    • What barriers commonly impede engagement in aftercare, and how can they be overcome?

      Common obstacles include:

      • Logistical challenges: Transportation, work/school schedules.

      • Financial concerns: Co‑pays, deductibles, lost wages.

      • Stigma and shame: Fear of judgment by peers or employers.

Solutions: Telehealth options, sliding‑scale fees, employer outreach letters, and confidential scheduling.

    • How is relapse prevention integrated into aftercare?

Relapse prevention is woven throughout aftercare via:

      • Trigger identification: Learning to recognize internal and external cues.

      • Coping skill drills: Role‑playing refusal skills and stress‑management techniques.

      • Early warning systems: Regular mood and craving assessments with a counselor.

This proactive approach turns potential setbacks into teachable moments.

    • In what ways do telemedicine and digital tools support aftercare?

      Technology enhances accessibility and continuity:

      • Virtual counseling: One‑on‑one or group therapy via secure video.

      • Recovery apps: Daily check‑ins, mood trackers, peer chat rooms.

      • Text/SMS reminders: Appointment prompts and motivational messages.

These tools keep you connected, even when you’re on the go.

    • What criteria should I use when selecting an aftercare provider?

Look for a program that offers:

      • Accreditation: CARF or Joint Commission–certified services.

      • Multidisciplinary team: Therapists, medical staff, peer specialists.

      • Continuum of care: Seamless transition from treatment to aftercare.

      • Outcome tracking: Data on success rates and client satisfaction.

Live Again Detox meets all these benchmarks—call 629‑465‑4224 to learn more.

    • How is aftercare typically funded, and will my insurance cover it?

      Funding options include:

      • Health insurance: Many plans cover IOP and outpatient therapy.

      • Medicaid/Medicare: Eligibility varies by state and program type.

      • Self‑pay & sliding scale: For uninsured or underinsured clients.

      • Scholarships/grants: Offered by some nonprofit recovery organizations.

We’ll verify your benefits at no cost—call 629‑465‑4224 for a free insurance check.

    • How can I measure my progress during aftercare?

      Key metrics include:

      • Attendance consistency: Number of sessions or meetings attended.

      • Self‑reported well‑being: Mood logs, stress levels, sleep quality.

      • Functional outcomes: Employment status, relationship health, legal compliance.

      • Relapse markers: Frequency/intensity of cravings and any lapses.

Review these benchmarks regularly with your care team to adjust your plan.

    • What steps do I take to enroll in an aftercare program?

      1. Initial Consultation: Call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for a confidential needs assessment.

      2. Plan Development: Collaborate with a care coordinator to design your personalized aftercare.

      3. Scheduling: Choose session times, telehealth vs. in‑person options, and peer group meetings.

      4. Orientation: Receive program materials, contact information, and crisis‑management protocols.

      • 24/7 Hotline: Live Again Detox offers around‑the‑clock phone support.

      • Crisis Counseling: Immediate telehealth sessions for urgent needs.

      • Local Resources: Referrals to nearby walk‑in clinics or psychiatric emergency services.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment In Nashville, TN

When facing the challenges of addiction, many individuals also struggle with mental health disorders that go hand-in-hand. This combination, often addressed at dual diagnosis treatment centers in Nashville, TN requires a specialized approach to treatment. It’s not just about addressing one issue or the other, but understanding how they interact and how we can help you overcome both. At Live Again Detox, we understand the unique needs of those dealing with dual diagnosis, and we’re here to offer compassionate, expert care tailored to your situation.

    What is Dual Diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis, also known as co-occurring disorders, refers to the presence of both a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder. For example, someone might struggle with depression and alcohol dependency simultaneously, or anxiety alongside drug addiction. These conditions often exacerbate each other, making it crucial to treat both simultaneously for effective recovery—a principle well understood by dual diagnosis treatment centers in Nashville.

    Causes of Dual Diagnosis

    • Genetics: A family history of mental health disorders or addiction can increase the likelihood of developing a dual diagnosis.
    • Environmental factors: Stressful environments, trauma, and exposure to drugs or alcohol at a young age can trigger both mental health issues and addiction.
    • Brain chemistry: Imbalances in neurotransmitters or brain chemicals can contribute to mental health disorders and may also increase the risk of substance abuse as a form of self-medication.
    • Psychological factors: Individuals with untreated mental health conditions may turn to drugs or alcohol as a coping mechanism, leading to addiction.

    Symptoms of Dual Diagnosis

Recognizing the symptoms of dual diagnosis can be challenging, as they often overlap with the signs of addiction or mental health issues on their own. However, some common symptoms include:

    • Intense mood swings: Frequent and extreme changes in mood, which may range from depression and anxiety to irritability and anger.
    • Withdrawal from social activities: Avoiding friends, family, or once enjoyable activities.
    • Compulsive behavior: Engaging in risky or reckless behavior, often related to drug or alcohol use.
    • Self-medication: Using drugs or alcohol to cope with stress, anxiety, or depression.
    • Difficulty managing daily life: Struggling to maintain employment, relationships, or personal responsibilities due to the combined effects of addiction and mental health issues.

    Common Co-occurring Mental Health Disorders

It’s estimated that adults with dual diagnosis make up 25.8% of all adults with any psychiatric disorder, 36.5% of those with any substance use disorder, and 17.8% of the 75.8 million adults who have either a psychiatric disorder or a substance use disorder. The most common mental health disorders that co-occur with substance use disorders (SUD) include:

    • Depression (Major Depressive Disorder)

      • Description: Depression is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities. Individuals with depression may turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with their symptoms.
      • Co-occurrence: People with depression often use substances to self-medicate, which can lead to a cycle of worsening depression and increased substance use.
    • Anxiety Disorders

      • Description: Anxiety disorders encompass a range of conditions, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder, all of which involve excessive fear, worry, or panic.
      • Co-occurrence: Substance use is sometimes a method to alleviate anxiety symptoms temporarily, though it can ultimately exacerbate anxiety and lead to dependence.
    • Bipolar Disorder

      • Description: Bipolar disorder is marked by extreme mood swings, including episodes of mania (high energy, impulsivity) and depression. The disorder can lead to significant disruptions in daily life.
      • Co-occurrence: During manic or depressive episodes, individuals may use drugs or alcohol as a way to manage their mood, often worsening the symptoms of both the mood disorder and the substance use disorder.
    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

      • Description: PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms include flashbacks, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
      • Co-occurrence: Those with PTSD may use substances to numb the emotional pain associated with their trauma, which can lead to addiction and further psychological distress.
    • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

      • Description: ADHD is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. It can affect both children and adults, often leading to challenges in managing daily responsibilities.
      • Co-occurrence: Individuals with ADHD might misuse stimulants or other substances to help them focus or calm down, increasing the risk of developing a substance use disorder.
    • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

      • Description: BPD involves intense emotions, unstable relationships, and impulsive behaviors. People with BPD often struggle with self-image and have a high sensitivity to rejection.
      • Co-occurrence: Those with BPD may engage in substance use as a way to manage emotional pain, impulsivity, and feelings of emptiness, but this often leads to addiction and further instability.
    • Schizophrenia

      • Description: Schizophrenia is a severe mental health disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. Symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking.
      • Co-occurrence: People with schizophrenia may use substances to cope with their symptoms, but drug or alcohol use can worsen the disorder’s severity and interfere with treatment.
    • Eating Disorders

      • Description: Eating disorders involve extreme behaviors, attitudes, and emotions related to food, weight, and body image. These disorders can be life-threatening and often co-occur with other mental health conditions.
      • Co-occurrence: Individuals with eating disorders might misuse substances as a way to control weight or to cope with the emotional distress related to their disorder.
    • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

      • Description: OCD is characterized by unwanted, persistent thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that the individual feels driven to perform.
      • Co-occurrence: Some people with OCD may turn to alcohol or drugs to try to manage their symptoms, leading to a dual diagnosis of OCD and substance use disorder.
    • Social Anxiety Disorder

      • Description: Social anxiety disorder involves an intense fear of social situations, often leading to avoidance of social interactions and significant distress in daily life.
      • Co-occurrence: Individuals with social anxiety may use substances to ease social fears, but over time, this can lead to dependency and exacerbate anxiety symptoms.

Each of these mental health disorders can complicate the treatment of substance use disorders, making it essential to address both conditions through integrated care, often provided in specialized settings like dual diagnosis treatment centers.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dual Diagnosis in Nashville, TN

    • What is dual diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis refers to the co‑occurrence of a substance use disorder (alcohol or drugs) and one or more mental health disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD). Treating both conditions simultaneously is critical, because each can fuel the other—untreated mental illness can drive substance use, and substance use can worsen psychiatric symptoms. Call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for a free, confidential assessment of your needs.

    • What does “dual diagnosis” really mean?

Semantically, “dual” indicates two distinct—but interrelated—conditions, and “diagnosis” denotes clinically recognized disorders. In practice, it means you have:

A primary substance use disorder (e.g., opioid, benzodiazepine, stimulant addiction)

At least one diagnosed mental health condition (e.g., major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder)

By addressing both diagnoses in an integrated treatment plan, you achieve better outcomes.
Call 629‑465‑4224 to learn how we integrate care for both your mind and body.

    • Why is specialized dual diagnosis treatment important?

Standard rehab that focuses only on addiction often overlooks underlying psychiatric issues, leading to:

Higher relapse rates when mental health symptoms resurface

Incomplete recovery, as emotional triggers remain unaddressed

Increased risk of self‑medication with drugs or alcohol

An integrated dual diagnosis program ensures that therapists, psychiatrists, and medical staff collaborate on a unified plan.
Call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 to discuss our integrated approach.

    • What are common co‑occurring mental health disorders?

      Dual diagnosis programs typically treat:

      • Depressive disorders (major depression, dysthymia)
      • Anxiety disorders (GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety)
      • Trauma‑related disorders (PTSD, acute stress disorder)
      • Bipolar disorder (type I & II)
      • Personality disorders (borderline, antisocial)
      • Early identification and tailored therapy for each condition improve recovery success.

For a free, confidential assessment, call 629‑465‑4224.

    • Who is a candidate for dual diagnosis treatment?

      You may benefit if you:
Struggle with substance use and mental health symptoms simultaneously
Have been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder while misusing substances
Experience mood swings, depression, or anxiety that drive drug/alcohol use
Have relapsed after single‑focus rehab programs
Our clinicians at Live Again Detox specialize in assessing both dimensions.
Call 629‑465‑4224 to find out if dual diagnosis treatment is right for you.

    • What does a dual diagnosis treatment program include?

Comprehensive Assessment: Intake evaluation by psychiatrists and addiction specialists
Medical Detox (if needed): 24/7 monitoring and medication‑assisted treatment (MAT)
Individual Therapy: Cognitive‑Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Group Therapy: Peer support groups focused on coping skills and relapse prevention
Psychiatric Care: Medication management for mood stabilization and anxiety control
Holistic Modalities: Mindfulness, yoga, art therapy to enhance emotional regulation
To customize your plan, call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for a free assessment.

    • How does medical detox work for dual diagnosis patients?

Stabilization: Safe tapering of substances under medical supervision
Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT): Use of FDA‑approved medications (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone, clonidine) to ease withdrawal
Psychiatric Support: Adjusting antidepressants or anxiolytics as needed to prevent symptom rebound
This integrated detox lays the foundation for effective therapy.
Call 629‑465‑4224 to learn more about our medically supervised detox.

    • What therapeutic approaches are used?

Cognitive‑Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Identifies and reshapes negative thought patterns
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Teaches emotion‑regulation and distress‑tolerance skills
Motivational Interviewing (MI): Enhances commitment to change

The Role of Family Therapy in Addiction Treatment

How Our Family Therapy Program Works at Live Again Detox

Our therapy sessions provide a safe space for open dialogue, where each family member is encouraged to voice their emotions and address underlying issues head-on. With over a decade of experience, our team provides both in-person and virtual sessions tailored to meet the unique needs of each family. By addressing not just the addiction but also the underlying issues, we aim to foster lasting healing and unity.

    Structured Sessions

Our family therapy in Nashville involves carefully structured sessions to promote healing and understanding. Each session provides the opportunity for family members to share their thoughts and feelings openly. Our therapists guide these conversations to encourage active listening and effective communication. By creating an environment of trust and openness, we help families address and resolve conflicts that may have arisen due to substance abuse.

    Our Family Therapy Objectives

Our primary objectives are to promote healing in relationships, healthy communication, and education to encourage lasting sobriety. We focus on identifying and addressing underlying issues that contribute to addiction, educating families about the nature of addiction, and developing strategies for sustained recovery.

    Strengthening Family Bonds

Our therapists encourage family members to share their points of view regarding the impact of addiction. This allows them to express feelings and begin to heal as their loved one heals. Additionally, the individual in addiction treatment can develop a stronger bond with family members by working through complex issues together in therapy.

These stronger bonds contribute to a nurturing environment that aids recovery. Our team at Live Again Detox has witnessed the significant impact of families healing together.

    Improving Communication Skills

Effective communication is critical to family harmony. In our sessions, we introduce practical strategies to improve family communication. Open and honest dialogue can resolve misunderstandings, build empathy, and prevent future conflicts. We guide families through exercises that promote active listening and constructive feedback. This way, everyone feels heard and valued.

    Supporting Long-Term Sobriety

Family involvement plays a crucial role in sustaining long-term sobriety. When loved ones understand the complexities of addiction, they’re better equipped to offer consistent support. We educate families about relapse prevention and coping mechanisms. By being part of the recovery journey, family members can learn to recognize the signs of relapse, reduce isolation, and encourage their loved one in sobriety.

Techniques Used During Family Therapy in Nashville

We use targeted therapeutic methods to address each family’s unique needs. For example, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) helps family members identify and shift harmful thought patterns, leading to healthier interactions. Another effective method is systemic therapy, which looks at the family as a whole and addresses dynamics that impact individual members.

In addition, we integrate education sessions to inform families about addiction triggers and enabling behaviors. This knowledge empowers families to support their loved one’s recovery more effectively. Our approach also includes solution-focused therapy, where we collaborate with families to create practical strategies for managing conflicts and improving relationships.

What to Expect During Your Family Therapy Sessions

    • Initial Assessments and Goals

During the first family therapy session at Live Again Detox, we conduct an initial assessment to understand your family’s dynamics, challenges, and goals. The therapist will ask a series of questions to gather background information on each family member’s role and perspective on the addiction issue. This process helps identify the underlying problems and sets the foundation for creating tailored treatment plans.

Establishing clear goals early helps everyone stay aligned and focused throughout the therapy. We then work together to set realistic expectations and measurable objectives for both individual and family progress.

    • Confidentiality and Safety in Therapy

Confidentiality and safety are paramount in family therapy. Every session is confidential, meaning that what we discuss stays within the therapeutic space unless there is a risk of harm to any family member. We establish ground rules at the beginning to ensure everyone understands the importance of respect and sensitivity to personal issues.

Creating a secure environment where family members can express themselves without fear of judgment is crucial. Our therapists prioritize each family member’s emotional safety, allowing for honest discussions and genuine healing.

Discover How Family Therapy in Nashville Can Help

By including family therapy at Live Again Detox, the focus shifts from individual struggles to collective healing. Our compassionate team is here to support you and your family through this journey.

Contact us today to learn more about our family therapy program and start healing together.

    • Typical Session Structure

Family therapy sessions generally last about an hour and are scheduled regularly to maintain consistency. Each session may vary, adapting to the unique needs and circumstances that arise. Initially, we might focus on building trust and encouraging open communication.

Throughout the therapy session, we use different approaches to address issues within the family. In a typical session, we start with a check-in, follow up on previous discussions, and then move into targeted exercises to improve communication and resolve conflicts. This structure helps us ensure that every member feels heard and respected.

    • What is family therapy in the context of addiction recovery?

Family therapy is a specialized form of counseling that involves the individual struggling with substance use and their loved ones.

    Holistic Treatment In Nashville, TN

When battling addiction, traditional methods like drug intervention and psychotherapy aren’t the only options. Our Holistic Treatment in Nashville, TN embraces an approach to rehab that considers the whole person, helping individuals rediscover what it feels like to truly live. Holistic treatments such as mindfulness and meditation aid in recovery and teach us to value our well-being.

    What Does Holistic Treatment Mean?

A holistic approach to addiction treatment views the individual as a whole, recognizing that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply connected. When one aspect is disrupted, it impacts the others. True wellness is achieved when all parts of a person are in harmony.

In addiction recovery, holistic treatments incorporate relaxation and spiritual care alongside proven therapeutic methods. These approaches extend beyond medical and psychological treatments. Studies have shown decreases in substance use and its related consequences with the use of holistic treatment during rehab

Core Principles of Holistic Addiction Treatment

Holistic treatment for addiction at Live Again Detox is built on a few key principles. First, we emphasize individualized treatment plans. Every person’s journey is unique, so their treatment should be, too. Next, we focus on natural and non-invasive therapies.

Techniques such as yoga and meditation promote mental clarity, emotional stability, and stress reduction. These holistic practices help clients regain balance during treatment and maintain it in their recovery. Lastly, our clients are able to heal with added comforts and amenities in their space. Recovery is hard, but no one has to do it alone. By nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, we aim to empower our clients, helping them reclaim their lives.

    Holistic Rehab Techniques

At Live Again Detox, we recognize both the emotional and physical factors in addiction. Our holistic addiction treatment in Nashville supports long-term recovery. While many come to us feeling stuck in survival mode, we give them immediate help along with the tools they need to maintain sobriety.

    • Physical Wellness Strategies

We believe in healing the body with a comprehensive approach. Our physical wellness strategies include medical supervision, nutrition counseling, and exercise routines. During treatment, our nutrition team will help create personalized meal plans to restore and maintain health. We incorporate regular exercise, from yoga to strength training, to rebuild physical strength and resilience.

Benefits of Holistic Treatment at Live Again Detox

    • Utilizing Natural Detoxification Methods

In addition to medically supervised detox, we believe in leveraging the body’s abilities to heal. Our approach combines the safety and comfort measures of medical detox while supporting the body’s natural ability to detox. This includes rest, balanced nutrition, and ample hydration to support the body’s detoxification pathways. Focusing on these essentials, we help clients efficiently remove toxins from their systems.

    • Reducing the Risk of Relapse

Our holistic treatment in Nashville, TN aims to provide long-term benefits, not just quick fixes. We incorporate lifestyle changes that clients can maintain even after they leave our facility. These changes include healthy eating habits, consistent physical activity, and stress management techniques. This sustainable approach helps maintain overall health and well-being, reducing the likelihood of relapse.

    • Enhanced Mental Clarity and Emotional Stability

Holistic treatment for addiction goes beyond the physical battles of substance use disorders. It is common for those struggling with addiction to have dual diagnosis, which is a co-occurring mental health disorder such as anxiety and depression. As these can go hand in hand, it is essential to address both addiction and mental health. During our dual diagnosis care, we integrate holistic treatment. Depending on the individual, this may include cognitive-behavioral therapies and mindfulness practices like meditation and yoga. With regular practice, clients often report better decision-making abilities, improved memory, and a greater connection between their mind and body.

    • Long-term Impact on Lifestyle

The benefits of our holistic treatment extend far beyond the detox and rehab phases. We’ve noticed that clients who embrace lifestyle changes during their stay are more likely to sustain their recovery. For instance, integrating healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and stress management techniques becomes a new way of life for many. Even after they leave our detox center, clients often continue practices like yoga and meditation, which help maintain mental and emotional wellness.

    Holistic Addiction Therapies to Consider

When treating the whole person, there are a variety of approaches that can yield positive results. Many holistic practices are simply about building habits that support our well-being. These habits can be something to look forward to, allowing a person to recharge and reset.

Rehab programs that utilize holistic techniques have better patient outcomes and fewer relapses. Since everyone has different needs in addiction treatment and life, finding what works for the individual is crucial.

Common holistic addiction therapy options include:

    • Breathwork
    • Mindfulness
    • Meditation or Prayer
    • Yoga
    • Exercise
    • Nutrition Counseling
    • Massage
    • Aromatherapy

    Outpatient Treatment In Nashville, TN

When it comes to battling addiction, we understand how important it is to find a treatment that aligns with your life and needs. At Live Again Detox, we provide comprehensive care that respects your independence while offering the support necessary for lasting recovery. For many of us, outpatient addiction treatment provides a balance between receiving professional help and maintaining our daily routines. If you’re considering outpatient addiction treatment in Nashville, we’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

    Understanding Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Outpatient addiction treatment is a flexible approach to recovery, allowing individuals to receive treatment while continuing to live at home and manage their responsibilities. Unlike inpatient treatment, which requires staying at a facility full-time, outpatient programs provide the structure and support needed without interrupting daily life.

The goal of outpatient addiction treatment is to offer the tools, therapies, and resources needed to achieve and maintain sobriety. We believe that outpatient care is not just about treating the addiction itself but also addressing the underlying issues that contribute to substance use. It’s a critical component in the continuum of care for addiction recovery, especially for those who have a stable home environment and are committed to their recovery journey.

Our programs are designed to empower you to overcome addiction while you continue to work, study, and engage with your family.

    Types of Outpatient Addiction Treatment

    • Dual Diagnosis Treatment

When facing the challenges of addiction, many individuals also struggle with mental health disorders that go hand-in-hand. This combination, often addressed at dual diagnosis treatment centers in Nashville, TN requires a specialized approach to treatment. It’s not just about addressing one issue or the other, but understanding how they interact and how we can help you overcome both. At Live Again Detox, we understand the unique needs of those dealing with dual diagnosis, and we’re here to offer compassionate, expert care tailored to your situation.

At Live Again Detox, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive care for those facing dual diagnosis. Our team of experienced professionals understands the complexities of co-occurring disorders and is committed to helping you or your loved one find a path to recovery.

    • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) in Tennessee

      Live Again Detox

For many individuals seeking recovery, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) in Tennessee provide the balance of structure and flexibility that makes long-term sobriety possible. Unlike residential care, IOP allows clients to live at home or in a sober living environment while receiving comprehensive treatment multiple days per week. This approach includes therapy, relapse prevention, group support, and family involvement—equipping participants with coping tools they can apply directly to their daily lives.

At Live Again Detox, clients benefit from a seamless continuum of care that begins with safe, medically monitored detoxification and can transition into IOP for ongoing support. By addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of addiction, Live Again Detox ensures that individuals are not only stabilized but also guided toward sustainable recovery. Their program emphasizes individualized care, compassionate staff, and evidence-based practices, helping people regain control and truly “live again.”

    • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in Tennessee

      Live Again Detox

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in Tennessee offer a higher level of structure and clinical support than outpatient care while still allowing clients to return home in the evenings. PHP is often the next step after medical detox or residential treatment, providing intensive therapy sessions, medication management, and holistic support five to seven days a week. This structured environment helps individuals stabilize while reinforcing accountability, relapse prevention, and emotional regulation skills.

At Live Again Detox, the PHP option bridges the gap between inpatient care and independent living. After completing detox, clients who need continued daily support benefit from the program’s combination of group therapy, individual counseling, psychiatric oversight, and wellness-based activities. By creating a strong foundation in a supportive, therapeutic environment, Live Again Detox empowers individuals to maintain progress and confidently transition into less intensive levels of care.

    • Standard Outpatient Programs

Standard Outpatient Programs (OP) in Tennessee are designed for individuals who have already built a strong foundation in recovery and are ready to step down into a less intensive level of care. Unlike PHP or IOP, outpatient programs typically involve only a few hours of therapy or counseling per week. This flexible structure allows clients to maintain work, school, or family responsibilities while continuing to receive professional guidance and peer support. OP is often the final stage in the continuum of care, helping people stay accountable and engaged in recovery long term.

At Live Again Detox, the outpatient program focuses on relapse prevention, ongoing therapy, and community support. Clients can continue working on personal growth, rebuilding relationships, and practicing healthy coping strategies while still having access to a supportive treatment team. By providing this level of care after detox, Live Again Detox ensures that individuals don’t just achieve sobriety but also sustain it as they reintegrate into daily life.

    Our Treatment Approach

At Live Again Detox, we use evidence-based therapies to guide our treatment programs. Here’s how we integrate these therapies into our outpatient addiction treatment in Nashville:

    • Trauma-Informed Approach

Many of us struggle with addiction due to unresolved trauma. Trauma-informed approach ensures that the root causes of your addiction are addressed, helping you heal from past experiences that may have contributed to your substance use.

At Live Again Detox, our tcrauma-informed approach prioritizes safety, choice, and collaboration while addressing the root causes of substance use. We incorporate evidence-based, trauma-focused therapies—such as EMDR, CPT, and trauma-informed CBT—along with grounding skills and gentle pacing to avoid re-traumatization. By treating trauma and addiction together, we help you process past experiences, rebuild resilience, and move forward with lasting recovery.

    • 12-Step Program

The 12-Step Program has long been a cornerstone of successful recovery for countless individuals. By offering a structured, spiritual framework, it encourages participants to take personal responsibility for their actions, make amends where possible, and build a supportive community that fosters accountability and hope. The program emphasizes ongoing recovery, reminding individuals that healing is a lifelong journey strengthened through fellowship and connection.

At Live Again Detox, we recognize the value of the 12-Step approach and provide opportunities for clients to engage with its principles as part of their recovery path. Whether through on-site meetings, partnerships with local 12-Step groups, or integration of its philosophy into counseling sessions, we ensure that clients can access this proven model of support. By blending 12-Step traditions with our evidence-based therapies, Live Again Detox helps individuals build a strong foundation for both sobriety and personal growth.

    • Approach to Dual Diagnosis in Tennessee

Many people facing addiction also live with co-occurring mental health conditions—such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD—that can intensify cravings and complicate recovery. Our dual diagnosis treatment addresses both at the same time through coordinated care that may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management when appropriate, and evidence-based therapies (CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed counseling).

At Live Again Detox, we integrate this approach within our outpatient addiction treatment in Nashville—aligning care plans across step-down levels (PHP, IOP, and OP), coordinating with community providers, and involving family support—so you can stabilize symptoms, strengthen coping skills, and build a more stable, sustainable recovery.

    • Holistic Treatment at Live Again Detox

Recovery is about more than abstaining from substances—it’s about restoring whole-person well-being. Our holistic care addresses mind, body, and spirit through mindfulness practices, yoga and gentle movement, breathwork, sleep hygiene, nutrition counseling, and stress-management techniques. These services complement clinical therapies, reduce relapse risk by calming the nervous system, and help you rebuild daily routines that support long-term recovery.

At Live Again Detox, holistic services are integrated across levels of care (PHP, IOP, and OP) so you can practice skills in real life and progress at a sustainable pace. You’ll receive individualized wellness planning, guided mindfulness sessions, and access to nutrition education and movement groups—woven directly into your treatment plan—to strengthen resilience, improve mood and energy, and support lasting, balanced recovery.

Benefits of Outpatient Treatment in Nashville

One of the key advantages of outpatient addiction treatment is the flexibility it offers. You can receive the care you need while continuing to manage your daily responsibilities. This allows you to maintain your job, attend school, and stay connected with your loved ones—all of which can be vital to your recovery process.

Another significant benefit is the access to community and family support. Because you remain at home during outpatient treatment, you can continue to build and rely on your support network. This ongoing connection can provide motivation, encouragement, and a sense of accountability, all of which are crucial for long-term recovery.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • What is outpatient treatment and how is it structured in Nashville?

Outpatient treatment allows individuals to receive evidence‑based care—such as counseling, therapy, and medical support—while living at home and maintaining daily responsibilities. In Nashville, programs typically include:

      • Standard Outpatient: 1–3 sessions per week, ideal for mild to moderate needs.

      • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): 9–20 hours per week of group and individual therapy.

      • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): 20+ hours per week, resembling inpatient care without overnight stays.

For a tailored recommendation, call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for a free, confidential assessment.

    • Who qualifies for outpatient versus more intensive care?

Outpatient treatment is suited for those who:

      • Have a stable, supportive home environment.

      • Do not require 24/7 medical supervision.

      • Can abstain from substances in daily life with structured support.

      • Have work, school, or family commitments that make inpatient care impractical.

If you’re unsure which level fits your situation, call 629‑465‑4224 to discuss your needs.

    • How does outpatient treatment differ from inpatient programs?

      • Living Arrangements: You sleep at home rather than on‑site.

      • Flexibility: Schedule around work or school.

      • Cost: Generally more affordable due to fewer residential services.

      • Support Intensity: Less continuous monitoring; relies on self‑discipline and external support.

To explore both options, call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for guidance.

    • What are the core components of an outpatient plan?

      A comprehensive outpatient plan includes:

      1. Assessment & Planning: Initial evaluation of medical history, substance use, and mental health.

      2. Therapeutic Modalities: Individual therapy (CBT, DBT), group sessions, family counseling.

      3. Medication Management: When appropriate, MAT (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone).

      4. Aftercare Coordination: Referrals to support groups, sober living, and continuing counseling.

Get started with a free intake by calling 629‑465‑4224.

    • What does a typical outpatient schedule look like?

      • Standard Outpatient: 1–2 hours, 1–3 days per week.

      • IOP: 3–4 hours per session, 3–5 days per week (often evenings).

      • PHP: 6–8 hours daily, Monday through Friday.

Schedules are customizable. Call Live Again Detox at 629‑465‑4224 for your personalized timetable.

    • How do I balance outpatient treatment with work or school?

      • Flexible Hours: Evening and weekend sessions accommodate busy schedules.

      • Telehealth Options: Virtual counseling when you can’t attend in person.

      • Employer/School Coordination: Letters of support and attendance documentation available upon request.

      Discuss flexibility—call 629‑465‑4224 for details.

    • What role do family and community play in outpatient success?

      • Family Therapy: Improves communication and rebuilds trust.

      • Peer Support Groups: 12‑step or alternative recovery communities.

      • Community Resources: Vocational training, housing assistance, and local sober events.

Strengthen your support network—call 629‑465‑4224 to learn more.

    • How does telehealth integrate with outpatient services?

      • Video Counseling: Secure, HIPAA‑compliant sessions from home.

    Help Is Standing By

Someone will get back to you as soon as possible

Residential Treatment Centers In Nashville, TN

There is hope when you or a loved one is struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. At Live Again Detox, we offer comprehensive and personalized residential treatment centers in Nashville, TN. Our compassionate team provides patient-centric care tailored to your specific needs. Our treatment plans utilize a range of evidence-based and holistic therapeutic modalities to help our clients lay a solid foundation for lasting recovery.

    What Is Residential Treatment?

Residential treatment is one level of care for treating substance use disorders (SUDs). It provides a highly structured and intensive treatment option where participants reside at the treatment facility for a specified period. Participants receive round-the-clock monitoring and care by medical and addiction professionals. Residential treatment programs are also called inpatient rehab treatment.

The duration of treatment can range from 30 to 90 days, sometimes longer. How long someone remains in residential treatment depends on their needs, treatment goals, and objectives. Research has shown that people who remain in residential care for 90 days tend to avoid relapse better. This is because they have had more time to develop and practice coping skills.

Residential treatment is recommended for individuals in the following situations:

    • They lack a stable and supportive home environment
    • They have tried outpatient treatment and continue to relapse
    • They are having thoughts of self-harm or suicide
    • They could be a harm to others
    • The level of addiction is moderate to severe

The detox process typically ranges from 7 to 14 days. This depends on the substance and the severity of the dependency. During the detox process, patients will also receive nutritional support and hydration therapy. Getting the right nutrients and fluids gives patients their bodies the health they need to make the detox process easier.

The next step for many of our clients is to complete detox. We provide on-site medically supervised detox with access to FDA-approved medications. Our supervised detox monitors individuals round-the-clock. Our staff helps people manage their withdrawal symptoms to help them safely complete detox. We also attempt to keep our clients as comfortable as possible.

During detox, many of our clients will begin their therapy sessions. Starting therapy during detox helps manage withdrawal symptoms. It also allows people to begin to explore the underlying causes of their addiction. As they become more comfortable with treatment, they will start to attend group therapy sessions.

    • Peer Support

Our group therapy sessions include different topics. Some sessions will focus on education. Other sessions can be more open forums where participants discuss specific topics as they relate to their personal experiences. Other sessions can be peer-led and focus on providing support and guidance.

Group therapy sessions are a powerful tool for counteracting the isolation that addiction often brings. Through sharing personal experiences, participants can relate to their peers and draw strength from the solidarity and compassion of others. When guided by a licensed therapist, the group can explore difficult topics while avoiding unhelpful tangents or even unhealthy situations. Having a safe environment to connect with others with similar experiences has been a powerful way to understand one’s own addiction and consider new perspectives to help overcome it.

    • Healing the Family

In addition, we offer family therapy. We believe family members should be included in recovery when they are willing to participate. Addiction impacts families just as much as the person in treatment.

Our family therapy sessions provide a safe space to rebuild trust and communication. Family members are led to share how their loved one’s addiction has hurt them. Family members also receive education about addiction and learn how they can best support their loved ones.

    • Life Skills Training

Throughout residential treatment, our clients receive life skills training. This training helps them develop skills to manage their daily routines once they leave treatment. We also provide access to holistic therapies to help our clients create healthy habits vital for recovery and long-term sobriety.

Throughout residential treatment, our clients receive life skills training. This training helps them develop skills to manage their daily routines once they leave treatment. The skills help clients thrive in the work place, navigate their career, engage in family life in healthy ways, navigate living out their personal life with fulfillment, and manage personal responsibilities.

We also provide access to holistic therapies to help our clients create healthy habits vital for recovery and long-term sobriety. These practices, like meditation, journaling, fitness training, and peer accountability are shared so clients can utilize them as often as they need after treatment. By the time clients are done, clients are typically able to use these skills reliably to the level that they can feel confident to take on life challenges with healthy coping mechanisms.

    • Aftercare Planning

As our clients near the end of their residential treatment, we work closely with them to develop a personalized aftercare plan. Aftercare is vital to maintaining a substance-free life. We can provide ongoing counseling, support services, and referrals as well.

Their plan could also include transitioning to a lower level of care, such as intensive outpatient rehab. We can even assist in helping our clients find sober living communities when they lack a supportive home environment.

Within aftercare planning, clients develop action plans to manage triggers and work through stressful situations. We also help clients build strong support networks by connecting with peers, mentors, and community resources. Plans for regular monitoring after treatment are decided with the client, and this offers a great transition but it also give great peace of mind in starting a new life in recovery. The goal with aftercare planning is for every client to have full confidence in the success they have achieved in treatment and assurance that support is always available at any point in recovery.

Within our aftercare planning, clients are set up with our alumni program. This is a great way to stay connected with peers, maintain accountability, and continue to witness other folks’ remarkable experiences with recovery. Alumni consistently report that our alumni program at Live Again Detox does a great job of transitioning the richness of peer and mentor connection gained during treatment into everyday life, post-treatment. Our alumni program includes regular meetings, check-ins, and connections to resources.

    Trauma Therapy in Nashville

When trauma is left unaddressed, it often worsens, leading to a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and even substance use disorders. We at Live Again Detox understand how difficult it can be to navigate life with the weight of trauma. Therefore, we offer compassionate, evidence-based trauma treatment in Nashville, TN to help you heal, reclaim your life, and move forward with renewed hope.

    Understanding Trauma

Trauma can be described as a psychological response to an event or series of events that are deeply distressing or disturbing. These experiences can leave us feeling vulnerable, helpless, or unable to cope. Whether it’s a single traumatic event, such as an accident, or ongoing trauma, like abuse, the impact on our mental and physical health can be profound.

Trauma doesn’t just affect our emotions—it can manifest in our bodies, altering the way we function daily. It may cause us to be on high alert constantly, disrupt our sleep patterns, or even lead to chronic physical pain. The effects of trauma are far-reaching, often spilling over into every aspect of our lives, including our relationships, work, and overall well-being.

It can present in numerous ways, but common signs of trauma include hypervigilance, nightmares, avoidance, struggling to establish and maintain healthy relationships, dissociation, negative thoughts, and fits of anger. Trauma can even affect our biology. It causes higher levels of stress, and when our brains are exposed to stress hormones over an extended period of time, certain parts of the brain overdevelop while others under develop.

While each person experiences trauma and its effects uniquely, there are some general themes of how trauma presents across age groups. Young children tend to have intense emotional episodes, withdrawal, and difficulty concentrating, among others. Adolescents can engage in more risk taking behaviors, and this is when substance abuse often begins when trauma is a primary driver. Self-consciousness, emotional volatility, and withdrawal are also signs of trauma in teens. Getting into adulthood, those who have experienced trauma may show relational issues, chronic health problems, substance abuse disorder, higher risk of depression and anxiety and even personality disorders.

    Types of Trauma

Trauma comes in many forms, and it’s important to recognize that no two experiences are exactly alike. Some of the most common types of trauma include:

    • Acute trauma:

This results from a single, intense event such as an accident, natural disaster, or violent attack. Reactions can be short-term, and it’s possible for the effects to dissipate over time. On the other hand, symptoms can develop within weeks of the event. If persistent over time and untreated, it can transform it into what is commonly called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. The major signifier of complex trauma is an event with a high impact that is often unexpected and abnormal to the person’s day-to-day life.

    • Chronic Trauma:

This occurs from repeated or prolonged exposure to distressing events, such as long-term abuse, bullying, or domestic violence. Chronic trauma can be more subtle like neglect, verbal abuse/manipulation, and chronic medical conditions. It can have long-term consequences, especially poor mental health and relational issues. Chronic trauma can be so harmful because it’s perceived that there is no escape from it, and it’s usually distinguished because it comes from a single source or thematic explanation.

    • Complex trauma:

This involves exposure to multiple traumatic events, often of an invasive, interpersonal nature, such as childhood abuse or neglect. This form of trauma coincidingly displays complex symptoms. It’s often the case that people who have experienced complex trauma are hypervigilant. Many who have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and PTSD have experienced complex trauma. This form of trauma is often caused by prolonged time in a stressful environment that’s stressful due to multiple traumatic events that vary in impact and often occur unpredictably. It’s often interpersonal in nature. One could think of complex trauma as the unpredictability of acute trauma and the persistence and perceived inescapability of chronic trauma.

    • Secondary trauma:

This can affect those who are closely connected to someone who has experienced trauma, such as caregivers, therapists, or first responders.

    Effects of Trauma

The effects of trauma are both varied and significant. They can influence every part of our lives, from how we think and feel to how we interact with others. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) traumatic experiences, particularly those occurring during childhood, have been linked to both behavioral health issues and chronic physical health conditions.

There is a recognized connection between trauma and the development of substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and other risky behaviors. Given that these behavioral health concerns can significantly affect relationships, careers, and various other aspects of life, it is crucial to understand the nature and impact of trauma and to explore pathways to healing.

Trauma is known to have negative impacts on physical health. Chronic pain, cardiovascular issues, immune dysregulation, and gastrointestinal issues are possibly consequences of trauma.

Trauma's effects can be seen in almost every aspect of life. Someone who has experienced trauma may have difficulty establishing and maintaining healthy relationships, such as romantic relationships, family relationships, and friendships. This is especially common amongst people who have experienced trauma from people who play primary roles in their lives like family members, close friends, work colleagues, etc. Trauma can also impact work. People may find it difficult to complete tasks, focus, navigate workplace dynamics, and even sustain a job. Our trauma treatment seeks to help individuals heal trauma and navigate through the challenging situations they’re faced with. With multiple methods, clients can be confident that our treatment will equip them with the tools necessary to experience joy and integration in all aspects of life.

Trauma’s effects are not just isolated to the individual either. Unhealthy coping mechanisms and behaviors caused by trauma can spread to family members, friends, and the work place. This is why during part of our trauma therapy treatment, we integrate family therapy in order to add even more healing to the person.

The Connection Between Trauma and Substance Use Disorders

Trauma and substance use disorders are closely linked. Many of us turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to numb the pain of trauma or to escape from overwhelming emotions. While substances may provide temporary relief, they ultimately create a cycle of dependence that worsens the underlying trauma. This destructive cycle can make recovery even more challenging.

In our trauma therapy in Nashville, we understand that substance use often serves as a coping mechanism for unresolved trauma. That’s why our approach goes beyond treating addiction alone; we focus on healing both the trauma and the substance use disorder through our specialized dual diagnosis treatment. Our program recognizes the complex relationship between these issues and provides comprehensive care that addresses them simultaneously.

    • Why Trauma Treatment Is Essential for Recovery

Addressing trauma is not just important; it’s essential for a full and lasting recovery. Without proper treatment, the wounds left by trauma can continue to affect us, even if we’ve managed to overcome substance use. Untreated trauma can lead to relapse, as the unresolved pain may drive us back to harmful coping mechanisms. Moreover, trauma can prevent us from fully engaging in life, leaving us feeling stuck or unable to move forward.

Trauma treatment helps us to process and make sense of what we’ve been through. It allows us to confront and heal from these experiences in a safe, supportive environment. By addressing trauma, we can reduce its power over our lives, learn healthier ways to cope with stress, and begin to build a future that is not defined by past pain.

    • Our Approach to Trauma Treatment at Live Again Detox

At Live Again Detox, our approach to trauma treatment is grounded in empathy, understanding, and a deep respect for each individual’s unique journey. We believe that healing is a process that requires time, patience, and the right environment. Our trauma therapy in Nashville is tailored to meet your specific needs, combining evidence-based practices with a warm, supportive atmosphere.

We focus on creating a safe space where you feel heard, validated, and empowered to heal. By working closely with our experienced team, you’ll develop the tools and resilience needed to manage your trauma and build a healthier, more fulfilling life.

We deploy a number of therapies to bring healing on every level. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) are used to identify and heal harmful thought patterns caused by trauma and then utilize healthy coping tools for the future. Clients can also utilize group therapy to heal through painful experiences with the help of connection, trust, and receptivity. As trauma affects those around us, clients can also go through family therapy to restore the relationships most important to us and reestablish them as sources of support.

    • Family Involvement in Trauma Treatment

Healing from trauma is not something we should have to do alone. In fact, involving family in the treatment process can be a crucial component of recovery. At Live Again Detox, we encourage family participation in trauma therapy because we understand that the effects of trauma often extend beyond the individual.

Family therapy sessions provide a safe space for open communication, where family members can learn about the impact of trauma, express their feelings, and support their loved one in recovery. These sessions can help to rebuild trust, improve relationships, and create a stronger support network that is essential for lasting recovery.

    • Continuing Care and Aftercare Planning

After completing our initial trauma therapy program, ongoing support is crucial to maintaining the progress that has been made. At Live Again Detox, we provide comprehensive aftercare planning to ensure that you have the resources and support you need as you transition back into daily life.

Our aftercare plans are personalized to meet your specific needs and may include continued therapy, support groups, and connections to community resources. We also offer follow-up care to monitor your progress and provide additional support as needed.

By engaging in continuing care, you can reinforce the skills and strategies you’ve learned during treatment, helping to prevent relapse and ensure a successful recovery. Our goal is to empower you to live a fulfilling life, free from the burdens of trauma.
